Small Business Web Design FAQ

Q: What's the difference between a normal web site and a mobile web site?
They are both functionally the same. However, normal web sites are design to have an effective user interface on a desktop or laptop while mobile web sites are specifically designed to be effective on small screens.

1. Responsive Web Design
Sometimes this goal is achieved through responsive web design. This type of web design knows what size your browser window is and hides certain design elements based on its width. You can usually tell when a web site has a responsive design by just shrinking your browser window and seeing what happens. To see it in action go to our app design section and play with your browser's size. It will morph along with its container.

2. Separate Mobile Site
The second method used is to "detect" when the user is viewing the site through a mobile device and then show them a different web site that is specifically designed for mobile. With this method, you basically have two web sites. However, this method lets you specifically design for the small screen instead of having to manipulate the big screen design for smaller screens. The end result here is far more flexibility.
