EDUCATION CASE STUDY:
University at Buffalo
INSTITUTION: University at Buffalo ( www.buffalo.edu )
DESCRIPTION:
The University at Buffalo is New York's premier public center for graduate and professional education and the state's largest and most comprehensive public university.
A member of the prestigious Association of American Universities, the University at Buffalo stands in the first rank among the nation's research-intensive public universities. The university was founded as a private institution in 1846 and merged with the State University of New York in 1962.
PROBLEMS:
UB needed an enhanced admissions gateway that could be customized on the fly by prospective students. The gateway should qualify eligible students who can then apply for admission online.
SOLUTIONS:
This project was a collaboration with UB's talented Electronic Media group. The resulting site solved all of the problems presented and tied cohesively into the other web initiatives UB was working on.
TECHNOLOGY NOTES: This site uses:
- Extensible Markup Language (XML) content.
- A custom built Perl XML parser to display the content on the web in all browsers.
- Oracle as the primary database.
