Bronx H.S. of Science

INSTITUTION: Bronx H.S. of Science ( www.science92.com )

DESCRIPTION: The Bronx H.S. of Science is one of the top 3 most prestigious high schools in New York.

PROBLEMS: The class of '92 needed a way to reconnect. The previous site was a static, outdated contact list with no functionality at all. Maintenance occurred very sporadically and no interaction between alumni was facilitated.

SOLUTIONS:

• Built a completely new community based web site.
• Facilitated communication, reconnection and collaboration through a multitude of tools:
  • Threaded permission based moderated & unmoderated bulletin boards
  • Multiple user live chat facilities
  • Rotating featured alumni profiles
  • Advanced alumni search tools that accept multiple criteria
• Password protected access to eliminate spam and unqualified visitors (non-alumni).
• Eliminated the need for a designated administrator by creating automated tools that keep alumni profiles current.
• Built in scalability so that if they wish to open the site to other alumni classes in the future, they can.

TECHNOLOGY NOTES: This project uses:

• Active Server Pages (ASP) for all web pages.
• Microsoft Access as a content storage backend.
• TyCoMa content management tools.
